Bretby Park Estate

The Bretby Park Estate extends to some 2,000 acres of mixed arable, grassland and mature mixed woodland. Set in an oasis of rolling Derbyshire hills with the main house overlooking a chain of wooded lakes.

The Estate was once the principle home of the Chesterfield family and passed by marriage to the Carnavon family and has now been within the same family since the 1900’s and has recently been given by Richard Perkins to his daughter Charlotte Macdonald of Sleat.

There is a strong shooting tradition on the estate extending from the Carnavon days to the present with record bags of 3,000 being obtained at the turn of the century. The shoot is very much a family affair with both Richard Perkins, and his family shooting.

The Partridge shooting is an excellent example of traditional sport, with the birds shown over hedges and rolling valleys and in the months of September, October and to the middle of November the partridge shooting dominates and the rest of the season is given over to pheasant shooting with some showing of partridge too. Pheasants are demanding coming from woodland and cover crops.
